Momoa

Momoa is a total people‑lover: the first to the fence, the first to ask for pets, and the first to win over every single visitor. He soaks up attention and adores making new friends. If you are looking for a donkey to love, then he is the one for you!

Background
Momoa was born during Hurricane Ike in 2008 and owned by one owner until 2025. His owner was an older woman who clearly loved him and who let him roam on a large property. Unfortunately, she developed dementia and was no longer able to care for him, so her family asked us to take him in.
Personality & Manners
- Very personable donkey! He loves petting and attention and will be the first to the fence to greet newcomers.
- Leads well – aside from a little balkiness when nervous.
- Gets pushy and may nibble fingers if fed treats from your hand, so it is best to limit treats and put them into a bucket.
- Has been around a preteen and enjoyed her petting but should be supervised around children.
- He has been turned out with a smaller pony and done fine. He’s also been pastured with a mare in the past and been fine.
- Does fine in a stall or paddock.
Training & Abilities
- Easy to catch and halter.
- Walks politely with his handler.
- Not sound to ride or drive.
- Loves interacting with people so he could be trained to do tricks and would probably enjoy the interaction.
Care Needs & Behavior
- Has foundered in the past so much be kept on a dry lot or wear a muzzle if out on pasture. Should not be out on lush pasture even with muzzle.
- Is currently on ½ tablet of Prascend for Cushings. Will eat his pill with his food so he is easy to treat.
- Wears hooves down on a dry lot so only needs periodically trimming.
- Fed primarily hay with a few handfuls of Senior feed so he doesn’t complain when others are fed.
- He is susceptible to fly strike, so he needs to wear a fly mask and boots in the summer and periodically be checked over for fly bite wounds.
Why This Horse is Amazing
Momoa is one of the nicest donkeys you’ll ever meet. He loves attention, is great to handle, and is happy out with horses or ponies. He loves attention and wins over every visitor to his current home. Whoever adopts him will be incredibly lucky.
