Pie to Your Piper

Pie To Your Piper, lovingly called Piper, came to us after being transferred from another rescue for training and rehoming. Her foster initially noted that she behaved as if she had experienced some groundwork in the past — and that proved true. Piper is a bright mare with a desire to connect. She is often the first one to meet you at the gate, and even on the days she’s not, she’s still fairly easy to catch with a calm, patient approach.

Personality & Manners
Training & Abilities
Personality & Manners: · Sweet, people-oriented mare who enjoys attention · Often the first one to greet you in the pasture (though some days may take a few minutes to catch) · Respectful and patient on the ground · Walks quietly and politely through gates · Stands calmly for grooming, bathing, and fly spray · Submissive within her herd but currently housed with mares Training & Abilities: · Leads well and stays attentive to her handler · Loads and unloads easily when led into the trailer · Stands tied quietly for grooming, farrier work, and baths · Stands ground-tied for full grooming sessions · Picks up all four feet willingly and holds them well · Farrier reports she has excellent feet Care: · Bird shot embedded in her back – Evidence she had been shot at some point in her past. – This understandably caused pain and defensive behavior under saddle. · DSLD in her hind legs – A chronic, progressive condition that makes riding unsafe and uncomfortable. · These discoveries explain the changes in her behavior and mean that Piper is not a candidate for riding. · Needs a patient, calm handler who respects her physical limitations · Benefits from consistent routines and gentle interaction Why she’s Amazing: Pie To Your Piper is an incredibly special mare whose gentle spirit shines through despite the challenges she has faced. She is sweet, attentive, and genuinely enjoys connecting with people. Piper’s wonderful ground manners, patience, and willingness make everyday interactions a joy—from grooming and bathing to simply spending quiet time together. Her resilience in overcoming past trauma, combined with her affectionate nature and steady presence, makes her an exceptional companion.
