Background
Chiron came to Bluebonnet when his owner, facing health challenges, made the difficult decision to donate him so he could continue receiving the care and affection he deserves. He’s an affectionate horse who loves being petted and spending time with people. His training background is a bit of a mystery, but his soft, steady personality shines through.
Personality & Manners
- Remarkably unbothered by heavy equipment, wind-blown objects, loud noises, and other common spook triggers.
- Very food motivated and stands ground tied nicely.
- Seems to gain confidence when he has an “audience” watching him.
- Does well in new environments.
- Smart, observant, and quick to learn.
Training & Abilities
- Introduced to an English saddle and snaffle bit; accepts both well.
- Stands for baths and enjoys grooming.
- Stands tied and cross tied; stands better when someone is nearby.
- Walks, steers, stops, and trots willingly under saddle.
- Easy to catch in pasture and easy to halter once caught.
- Loads into a slant load trailer.
- Walks politely next to his handler.
- Stands well for grooming, bathing, fly spray, and the farrier.
- Has been introduced to obstacles, trails, and other arenas.
- Prefers routine and consistency.
- Lunges in the round pen and on a lunge line at walk, trot, and canter in both directions.
- Ridden at walk, trot, and canter in the round pen.
- Ridden at walk and trot in both directions in the arena.
- Shows good steering and responsiveness for his level of training.
- With more time and consistent handling, he has the potential to become a fantastic lesson horse.
Care Needs & Behavior
- Still very green and needs an experienced hand to continue his development.
- He bucked occasionally when first learning the canter. He may still offer a light crow hop when he becomes frustrated or confused, especially if he feels his cues are being missed.
- Currently wearing front shoes due to thin soles.
Why This Horse is Amazing
Chiron is the kind of horse who makes you excited to show up and work with him. He’s smart, steady, and remarkably unfazed by the things that typically worry young horses — heavy equipment, wind-blown objects, loud noises, busy arenas, dogs, kids, and all the everyday chaos of a working barn. He’s thoughtful, willing, and genuinely tries to understand what’s being asked of him.

Under saddle, Chiron is already showing great promise. He walks, steers, stops, and trots with growing confidence, and he seems to shine even more when he has an audience cheering him on. He’s easy to catch, easy to halter, stands tied and cross tied, and handles grooming, bathing, fly spray, and the farrier like a gentleman. He’s also food motivated, which makes training both fun and effective.

Chiron is still green, and because he’s very smart, he needs an experienced hand to guide him, so he continues learning the right habits. But with consistency and a clear routine — which he prefers — he has the potential to become a truly exceptional partner. He’s ready for someone who appreciates a smart, willing horse and wants to help shape him into the incredible partner he’s capable of becoming.
