Background
Drax came from a neglectful situation where his basic needs were not being met. Once authorities intervened, he was transferred to Bluebonnet for proper care and a fresh start. He arrived underweight, barely halter broke, and with very little handling.

Thanks to time, patience, and consistent care from his trainer, Drax has gained weight, confidence, and is beginning to discover his full potential. His journey is far from over, but he’s finally on the path he always deserved.
Personality & Manners
- Absolutely loves attention and enjoys connecting with people.
- Has met children of all ages (with a fence between) and happily accepts treats and scratches.
- Growing more confident with every training session.
- Calm and patient for grooming — allows his tail to be brushed and enjoys attention.
- Willing but shy when introduced to new things; needs a confident, steady handler.
- Stands quietly for baths in the wash rack.
- Loves attention from kids (met through a fence) and happily accepts treats and scratches.
- Introduced to obstacles in hand and takes them in stride.
- Personality is hilarious — some days he’s lazy and mellow, other days he acts like he’s never met you.
- Walks politely next to his handler and stands tied.
Training & Abilities
- Learning to ground tie and becoming more consistent with it.
- Accepts a western saddle.
- Lunges at walk, trot, and canter, thinking through each request like a seasoned horse.
- Introduced to obstacles in hand and takes them in stride.
- Stands quietly for saddling and shows impressive patience for a young horse.
- Confidence grows with each session; learning voice cues in the round pen.
- No major vices; simply needs more time, miles, and daily handling.
- Exposed to tarps, bridges, push‑pole obstacles, loud music, screaming/running kids, dogs, other horses, and even a train passing every 30 minutes — handled all extremely well.
- Sudden movements from the saddle still make him nervous; prefers a confident rider.
- Currently working on picking up objects, swinging a rope, and dragging a sled.
- Easy to catch in pasture and easy to halter.
- Loads when led into a slant‑load trailer.
- Stands well for grooming, bathing, fly spray, and the farrier.
- Lunges in round pen and on lunge line at walk, trot, and canter in both directions.
- Walks and trots beautifully under saddle; extremely smooth gaits.
- Halt is slow and backup is even slower — still learning responsiveness.
- Easy to turn; beginning to understand sitting trot vs. extended trot.
- Canters on both leads but maintaining the lope is still a challenge — currently celebrating 3–5 strides.
- Started under saddle in August and is ready for continued development.
Care Needs & Behavior
- Thrives on a consistent schedule (5 days a week of riding, lunging, grooming, groundwork, etc.).
- Has passed a performance exam with flying colors.
- Needs a “job” and regular engagement to stay focused and confident.
Why This Horse is Amazing
Drax is the kind of young horse who makes you excited for the future. His confidence grows every week, and he handles new experiences with a level of maturity that’s rare in a horse his age. He’s already been exposed to tarps, bridges, loud environments, dogs, kids, trains, and busy arenas — and he’s taken it all in stride.

He loves attention, enjoys learning, and thrives on a consistent routine. Under saddle, he’s smooth, responsive, and steadily improving. He’s the type of horse who will reward someone who invests in him: give him time, miles, and clear guidance, and he’ll become a dependable, enjoyable partner.

Drax doesn’t have major vices — he simply needs an adopter who appreciates a young horse with a good mind and is willing to continue his training. For someone looking for a project with tons of potential, a sweet personality, and a solid foundation already in place, Drax is absolutely worth taking home.
