Our Horses

Making the world a better place for the horses who need us.

Saru

Saru came to Bluebonnet from another rescue who was overwhelmed, and he’s spent some time with a veterinarian familiar with gaited horse. He’s become a loving horse who is hoping to find someone to go on adventures with.

Background
Saru came to Bluebonnet along with two other horses from another organization so we could help them out. He needed some veterinary care, and now that he’s healthy and up to date, he’s ready to find an adopter who will enjoy him!
Personality & Manners
- Interested in people; recently planted his feet and allowed his foster to walk right up.
- Very good manners once caught and genuinely aims to please.
- Low‑ranking in the herd; happy to eat beside anyone who won’t bully him.
- Submissive to most horses and prefers calm companions.
- Seems to enjoy attention and soft interaction.
- Handsome, sweet, and curious.
Training & Abilities
- Hard to catch when he first arrived but has improved with repeated handling.
- Lunges well on a lunge line, even in an open field.
- Natural four‑beat gait (Tennessee Walking Horse).
- Stands quietly for saddling with a western saddle.
- Stands for bridling but mouths a snaffle bit.
- Ridden briefly in a rope halter since he seemed unsure of the bit.
- Not spooky or silly — just green and lacking formal training.
Care Needs & Behavior
- Had a wound on a front leg when he arrived that was not healing well. With care from his veterinarian foster home, it has healed and does not bother him.
- Has multiple growths in/on his ear when he arrived. His veterinarian removed them in the spring of 2026 and they have not returned.
Why This Horse is Amazing
Saru is one of those horses who blossoms when someone shows him patience and kindness. He arrived nervous and unsure, but with steady handling he’s revealed a sweet, curious nature and a genuine desire to connect.

He’s handsome, willing, and naturally smooth‑gaited — a wonderful foundation for a future trail partner. Saru is looking for “his person,” someone who will give him the quiet reassurance he needs to feel safe and confident. In return, he’ll offer loyalty, softness, and the joy of watching a once‑uncertain horse learn to trust and love again.
