Due to insurance requirements, only Service and Guidance dogs as defined by the ADA Title II and Title III will be allowed at the Bluebonnet Horse Expo.
Tickets are available at the door and are $10 each with children 12 years of age or under getting in free. Parking is free, and you are welcome to come in, leave, and return as long as you keep your ticket bracelet on.
Clinicians
Because the Bluebonnet Horse Expo is a fundraiser for the horses of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society, all clinicians and presenters donate their time and travel expenses to help make the Expo the best possible event it can be. In exchange, we provide clinicians with space in the vendor hall, advertising in the Expo program, and posts on our social media pages.

Michael, Brooklyn, and Elaina Battenfield – Battenfield Horsemanship: Michael Battenfield is a professional natural horsemanship trainer with years of experience training horses and teaching riders across the country. His approach focuses on building a willing partnership between horse and rider, with training techniques that carry over into the show ring, working situations, and everyday pleasure riding.
Horsemanship is a family passion Michael shares with his two daughters, Brooklyn and Elaina. Both have successfully trained and competed with Mustangs, earning Championship and Reserve Championship honors along the way.
Brooklyn Battenfield teaches riding lessons and enjoys developing horses through liberty work and bridleless riding. She enjoys helping riders improve their horsemanship while building confidence and stronger connections with their horses.
Elaina Battenfield enjoys starting colts and developing young horses, with a particular interest in liberty work and bridleless riding. Her approach emphasizes building a solid foundation and developing a willing, responsive horse.
Michael, Brooklyn, and Elaina have also all competed in previous Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenges and the family adopted Michael’s Challenge horse, Hickory.
Together, Michael, Brooklyn and Elaina share a practical approach to horsemanship centered on communication, trust and developing a better partnership between horse and rider.

Lindsay Burer, MS – Nutrition Consultant: A lifelong horse lover and owner, she is passionate about helping horses live healthier lives through practical, science-based nutrition while empowering owners to make informed feeding decisions.

Greg Dial – The Gentle Rein: “Relaxed Performance” has been Greg’s goal for 40+ years every time he works with a horse and/or rider. With an extensive background in reining, ranch work, and stock horse, Greg knows the ability that makes a good show horse or the versatility that makes for good cow work and how to gently encourage any horse to perform at a higher level. He draws from and works with multiple riding disciplines, from dressage to endurance, and coaches techniques and exercises to develop horse and rider to be better rounded, precise, correct, and fluid in movement while remaining mentally relaxed. Over the years, Greg has shown Quarter Horses, Paints, and Arabians successfully in reining, cowhorse, versatility, western pleasure, trail, and halter. He continues to help owners who wish to show their horses, but his work is mainly about eliciting the best in horses and riders to develop a deeper connection for any discipline. As The Gentle Rein, Greg conducts horsemanship, trail, and ranch horse clinics around Texas and the southwest, coaches an IEA Western team, judges and manages shows, and maintains a busy schedule of private and group lessons.

Aaron, Riva, Heather, and Holly England – England Versatile Horsemanship: The England family of England’s Versatile Horsemanship have been part of the Bluebonnet Horse Expo for years: giving clinics, competing in multiple Training Challenges, judging the Training Challenge. Their daughters Heather and Holly have competed multiple times in the Training Challenge and in the past few years joined their dad in the arena to give informative clinics and demonstrations. Aaron also requires his Versatile Horsemanship apprentices compete in at least one Bluebonnet Training Challenge.
This year, Riva’s going to be one of the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge judges and Heather and Holly England will join their dad, Aaron, in the Main Arena at 10:00 AM to demonstrate Liberty Freestyle Training.
Heather has loved horses all her life, and has been showing since the age of four. She’s competed in the Bluebonnet Training Challenge 4 times, winning in both 2020 and 2021 and has placed in the Top 10 in the Mustang Makerover in Ft. Worth, the TIP Challenge, the Branded Bonanza, and the Mustang Magic. Holly competed in the Bluebonnet Training Challenge in 2021 with Jitterbug and won reserve champion. In addition to riding and showing horses, she shows calves.

Kelly Jefferson – Kelly’s Equine Services: Kelly Jefferson is a Masterson Method Certified Practitioner, Instructor and Coach. She has also trained in CranioSacral therapy and Graston Technique. Based on what horses have been presenting to her, she has begun studying and addressing equine posture, dysfunctional movement and rehabilitation. Kelly is located in Georgetown, Texas and travels within one hour for clients. Kelly has been involved with horses since a young age in 4H and most recently riding dressage.

Dr. Nicholas Ladouceur – Moore Equine:. Dr. Ladouceur was born and raised in Quebec, Canada. At a young age he quickly realized he had a passion for English riding. Through his experience with horses, he developed a strong interest in the field of equine dentistry. This led him to attend the Academy of Equine Dentistry through which he obtained certification in 2011 as a technician.
Around this time, he began assisting and shadowing at Moore Equine in the process of continuing his dental education. e then attended veterinary school at Ross University and completed his clinical studies at Purdue University. Following his doctorate, he decided to complete a one year internship at Moore Equine where he is developing his diagnostic, surgical, and restorative skills. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and their dog. Following completion of his internship, Dr. Ladouceur has joined the Moore Equine team as an associate veterinarian.
Moore Equine is a veterinary clinic based in Bertram, Texas that was born from a passion for equine dentistry and provides highest standard of care in horse dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. A trusted referral center for complex dental and oral surgical cases from veterinarians throughout Texas and neighboring states, their focus is multifaceted, encompassing minimally invasive extraction techniques for diseased teeth, sino-nasal surgeries, non-invasive trans-nasal sinuscopy to treat sinus disease, restorative dentistry, precise occlusal equilibration, and floating. Dr. Natalie Lord – Four Paws – Quatro Patas: Dr. Lord is a mixed-animal veterinarian, horse owner, and the veterinarian behind Four Paws – Cuatro Patas. With a passion for practical rural veterinary medicine, horsemanship, and owner education, Dr. Lord strives to make quality veterinary knowledge and practical care more accessible to the rural community while helping owners become confident and capable partners in the health and well-being of their animals.
Dr. Lord believes that good veterinary care begins long before an emergency occurs: Education, prevention, and good horsemanship are the foundations of a healthy horse. An owner who understands what is normal for their horse is better equipped to recognize when something is wrong, communicate effectively with their veterinarian, and make informed decisions about care.

Craig and Katie Moore – Moore Horsemanship: Craig and Katie are a married horse training duo, they operate Moore Horsemanship in Stephenville. They spend their days training horses for the public and raising their beautiful daughter Rylee. They compete in Mustang Makeover competitions and have over 20 top 10 finishes and 6 first place victories, combined. Craig was a 2021 Road To The Horse Wild Card Competitor and enjoys helping others through horse training, lessons, and clinics. Katie focuses her time on training and showing her young stallion, riding her mustang, and raising their toddler.
They have experience in colt starting, roping, ranch riding, jumping, hunt seat equitation, trail obstacle challenges, EXCA, tricks, liberty, and problem solving. They’ve also trained and shown a variety of breeds from mustangs to Quarter Horses, draft breeds, Welsh Cobs, Thoroughbreds, Paints, gaited breeds, warmbloods, and many mixed breeds.
They bring a down to earth honest perspective when helping clients and do their best to help clients find or create the horse that’s right for them.

Christina Rountree – Equi-Vive Equine Massage & Dry Salt Therapy: Christina is the owner of Equi-Vive Equine Massage & Dry Salt Therapy, a mobile equine wellness business dedicated to helping horses feel, breathe, and perform their best.
As a Certified Equine Massage Therapist and Dry Salt Therapy Practitioner, Christina provides natural, non-invasive support for horses of all disciplines and ages. Her services are designed to support respiratory health, skin wellness, muscle recovery, relaxation, and overall performance.
Christina is passionate about educating horse owners on proactive wellness and providing individualized care based on each horse’s needs. Whether supporting a performance horse, a senior horse, or simply helping a horse feel its best, her goal is to provide another valuable tool owners can incorporate into their horse’s wellness routine.
Karen Shock – Getting Salty: Karen is a Certified Wound Care Associate with over 25 years of experience spanning the medical device and animal health industries. She works with hospitals across the country, consulting on initiatives focused on regulatory compliance, clinical best practices, and improving patient safety.
She and her husband have been involved in the equine industry in Central Texas for more than 25 years. They raise performance Paint and Quarter Horses, Corriente rope cattle, and mini Australian Shepherds. Their equine disciplines include team roping, barrel racing, and starting and developing two-year-old horses. They also own a feed store in Thorndale, serving the equine community for over a decade. Her husband is an American Farrier’s Association (AFA) Certified Farrier, adding another dimension of expertise to their involvement in equine care and performance.
In 2024, Karen became interested in salt therapy (halotherapy) after seeking additional ways to support horses experiencing respiratory challenges associated with dust allergies and illness. Her combined background in human healthcare, animal health, and hands-on equine management gives her a unique perspective on wound care, prevention, respiratory wellness, and the practical challenges faced by both healthcare professionals and animal owners. Karen graduated from Texas A&M with a BS in Ag Economics.
Kaylon Sullins Robinson and Cathy Sullins – KnP Training: Kaylon Sullins Robinson is a horse trainer and riding coach in Victoria, Texas. She spent most of her childhood training horses with her mother, Cathy Sullins. Since 2007 KnP has been helping everyday horse owners achieve their horsemanship goals and open their own gate to endless possibilities. Specializing in western performance, competitive trail, and all around horsemanship, she meets you where you are with your horse to offersa straight forward approach to training while putting the horse’s physical and mental well- being first.
Cathy Sullins is a lifelong horsewoman with over 50 years training experience. She works closely with Kaylon and KnP Training and Lessons and teaches clinics throughout the year. Cathy is an avid rider and enjoys trail riding with friends and family. She is a competitive trail Judge for Texas Trail Challenge Club, where she also competes and has achieved grand champion Horseman.

Lori Wright – Equi-First Aid: Lori Wright is a senior certified Equi-First Aid USA instructor, empowering horse owners with the skills and confidence necessary to ensure the health and safety of their horses in any situation. Their programs encompass essential and advanced equine first aid, first aid for backcountry riders, safe trailering and disaster planning and emergency preparedness training for horse owners, barn managers and even children.
The programs and curriculum were developed twelve years ago by a collaborative group of equine professionals, including Dr. Brian Taylor and Dr. David Dempsey, equine dentists, farriers, chiropractors, massage therapists, nutritionists, and experienced backcountry outfitters.
Their training is recognized for continuing education (CE) credits by EGALA. Additionally, it is accepted by PATH, IAABC, and numerous high school credit programs. Some insurance carriers acknowledge the training for favorable equine mortality and health rates

Lauren Kay Sutton Memorial Stick Horse Show
Hosted by KnP Training and Friends
Thank you to Barbara Dietzel, the great-grandmother of Lauren Kay Sutton, for supporting the Annual Lauren Kay Sutton Memorial Stick Horse Show.
Grab your boots, rope, and trusty stick horse steed and join us for all around romping stomping good time. The Annual Lauren Kay Sutton Memorial Stick Horse Show starts at 11:30am.
High Point, Reserve High Point, and Roping Trophy Buckles and other awesome prizes 1st-6th are up for grabs this year.
$5 per class or $25 all day (all classes) donation per child. A limited number of stick horses will be available to borrow.
Classes:
- Horsemanship (a simple pattern)
- Show Jumping (most clean jumps jumped in a set time period)
- Clover Leaf Barrels (fastest clean time)
- Pole Bending (fastest clean time)
- Straight Barrels (fastest clean time)
- Egg and Spoon (ride and don’t drop your wooden egg).
- Rope Off (bring your rope or borrow ours, be the last one through the rounds to rope the dummy and win the 2025 buckle and bragging rights until next year).
Training Challenge
Applications for the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge close at 10pm on June 1st. We will not accept late submissions/applications this year.
The Challenge is a competition and adoption event for the horses of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society. Competitors work with a Bluebonnet horse for four months (June-October) and then compete over an obstacle course, in a freestyle where they can show off the horse’s skills, and show off the horse’s basic skills (such as trailer loading, standing tied, picking up feet). We award up to $13,000 in prize money divided between four divisions: Professional Under Saddle (starting or restarting a horse under saddle), Non-Pro/Foster home under saddle (working with horses who have already been started under saddle), In-Hand (for pros and non-pros 13 years of age and older), and Non-Pro in Hand (for kids 12 years of age and younger). The competition takes place on October 3rd during the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Williamson Co Expo Center in Taylor, Texas. All Training Challenge horses are offered for adoption at the event.
There is a $20 registration fee for all trainers to help with some of the administrative expenses associated with the event.

The Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge is a competition in which volunteer foster homes and professional trainers work with a Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society foster horse for four months and compete in the Challenge.
The goals of the Challenge are to:
- Introduce the public to talented rescue horses
- Showcase the training abilities of participants
- Produce horses who are ready to go to work for their adopters
The competition is open to any BEHS member who applies and is approved, as well as professional trainers. If you are not currently a BEHS member, join the rescue to begin the process. Those competing in the professional category do not have to join the rescue. All competitors will need to fill out a Training Challenge application.
The contest will be judged by a panel of three equine professionals. Each horse and trainer or foster home combination’s total score will be based on:
- Difficulty level of horse
- Condition of horse
- Freestyle Class
- Trail Class
- Ability to perform basic skills such as tying, picking up feet, etc.

Elite Professional Division
There must be at least six entries in order for the full prize money to be awarded:

- 3rd: $2,000
Professional Division:
There must be at least nine entries in order for the full prize money to be awarded:
- 1st: $4,650
- 2nd: $2,500
- 3rd: $1,300
- 4th: $800
- 5th: $500
Non-Pro Under Saddle
There must be at least nine entries in order for the full prize money to be awarded:
- 1st: $800
- 2nd: $600

Youth Scholarship Program
We’ve created two youth scholarships – one for the in hand competitor who scores the most points and one for the Non Pro Under Saddle competitor who scores the most points.
In order to win, the competitor must:
- Complete a scholarship application by July 24th, 2026
- Be a Junior or Senior in high school during the 2026-2027 school year
- Plan on attending a college or trade school or is participating in an approved apprenticeship program: while we appreciate students working towards equine-related degrees or trades, that is not a requirement for this scholarship
- Post on their Training Challenge horse’s official Facebook page in accordance with Facebook post guidelines in the rulebook a minimum of three times per month.
- They must bring the horse to the competition, compete, and take the horse back home after the competition if he/she is not adopted (in line with the Challenge rules).
- Follow all Training Challenge rules and deadlines.
- Score the most points of any other Junior or Senior who is competing in their division. They do not have to win their division or place high (although those two things would increase their scores).
- Must volunteer at least 2 hours at the Expo in October, or a friend/family member can volunteer and donate on your behalf.
Our goal is to attract more youth competitors and also support youth competitors as they prepare for their careers.
This year’s scholarship project is a pilot program – and if it works well, we’ll look at expanding the scholarship program in the future.

Sale Area
The Bluebonnet Horse Expo sale area includes new and used tack, blankets, show clothing, horse/ranch equipment, western/horse/farm/ranch-themed artwork, home decor, jewelry, toys, and other gently used items.
We need donations of new and gently used items to make the sale a success.

Sell at the Expo
Bluebonnet Horse Expo vendors have the chance to meet hundreds of attendees and sell their products and services. As an added bonus, vendor fees go towards helping horses across Texas.
All vendor fees are non-refundable.
Unfortunately, the Williamson County Expo Center does not allow outside food vendors (they have a contract with a food vendor).
Our vendor area is inside a climate-controlled area between the Expo entrance and arenas. This means that most attendees pass through the vendor hall on their way into the Expo and when they leave as well. The rescue’s silent auction also takes place in the vendor hall, meaning you get multiple chances to catch shoppers’ eyes.
The Expo draws approximately 1,000 people including attendees, clinicians, Challenge participants, and volunteers. Additionally, our Facebook page has over 20,000 followers, and our newsletter goes out to over 5,000 people.
Vendor check-in starts at 2pm on Friday afternoon or 7am Saturday morning. Please be in place and ready no later than 8:30 am on Saturday. Vendor spaces will be first come, first served.
Spaces are 10 x 10 space located indoors and include one table and two chairs. Additional tables are available for $8/table from the Williamson County Expo Facility. Unfortunately, no personal tables are allowed by the event center.
Vendor spaces not paid for by September 1 will not be listed in the Expo program.
Vendor applications submitted without fees will not be reviewed and will be discarded. Vendors who submitted an application and fee after Sept. 1 will not be included in the program but will be listed on the website, social media, etc.

Donate to Support the Expo / Challenge
The Bluebonnet Horse Expo & Rescue Horse Training Challenge is our only annual in person event, so its success is critical to our ability to help horses. Donations to the Expo & Challenge drive will allow us to care for formerly abused, neglected, abandoned and unwanted horses at Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society and also take in more horses who need us.
Because we are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (EIN: 84-1673775), donations made to our Expo & Challenge fund are tax-deductible.

- Submit an Approved Adopter Questionnaire – Helps us match you with horses that fit your goals and experience.
Step 3: Meet the Horses
Explore the horses participating in the Expo and follow their training journeys on Facebook.
Step 4: Submit Your Top Choices
September 18th at 9:00 AM (Emails sent earlier will not count to keep the process fair.)
Email adoption@bluebonnetequine.org with up to three horses you’re interested in.
Guidelines:
- You may only be first on one horse’s list.
- Rank your choices in order of preference.
- You may remove your name from a list at any time.
- You may not add your name to a new list until Expo day.
- Exceptions may be made by the adoption team.
A week before the Expo, you’ll receive an email if you are first in line to meet a horse. The email will tell you what time you need to be there and more information on the day of.
Adoption Day Process
Watch the Challenge Horses
You’ll see your selected horses compete in their Freestyle and Obstacle Course classes.
Check In
Visit the Adoption Table to receive your Test Ride Card, which allows you to ride your chosen Challenge horse with the trainer present. After your ride, check back in with the adoption team to share your decision.
Test Riding Horses
A designated riding area will be available.
Rider requirements:
- Closed-toe shoes
- Appropriate riding attire
- Helmets recommended for all riders
- Helmets required for riders under 18.
What to Expect When You Adopt from Bluebonnet
When you adopt from Bluebonnet, you’re bringing home a horse who has received several months of training with their Challenge trainer. Each horse arrives at the Expo prepared, evaluated, and cared for by trainers who know them well.
Every horse available for adoption will be:
- Up to date on Coggins
- Current on vaccinations
- Recently trimmed
- Recently vetted for dental needs
Our goal is to ensure each horse is healthy, safe, and ready to transition into their new home.

Adoption fees will be posted on the website in September. All adoption fees are half-price on Expo Day and are non-negotiable.

FAQ
If I have applied before, do I need to fill out another application?
No. If you have applied in the past, we should already have your application on file. If you have moved, or changed the boarding facility, then you will need to fill out another application.
Can I go see the horse before the event?
No. The horses are working hard with their trainers to prepare for the Expo. You will have time to meet and test ride horses at the event before deciding to adopt.
Can I talk to the trainer before the expo?
Yes. You are welcome to message the trainers through their Facebook pages. You can find the list of trainer pages here.
Do I have to be at the event to adopt?
Yes. You must attend the Expo to meet the horses and complete the adoption process. You will need to bring a halter and lead rope to take your horse home. If you don’t have one, visit our Used Tack Sale at the Expo.
Do I need to bring a trailer?
Yes. You are responsible for transporting your horse home. We will have volunteers available to help you load if needed.
If I am not the 1st person in line for the challenge horse, does that mean I will not be able to adopt?
Not necessarily. The first person in line may decide if the horse isn’t the right fit, may choose another horse, or may change their mind. One staff member was fifth in line for a Challenge horse and still adopted him.
Are all the horses you have available for adoption in the challenge?
No. In addition to Challenge horses, some foster homes bring horses to the Expo who are also available for adoption.
